One Million Masks Against Covid

The Movement Started by The Daofeng & Angela Foundation

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit America and it became apparent that healthcare workers were without lifesaving respirator masks, philanthropist and entrepreneur Daofeng He formed the Covid-19 Life Preservation Fund. He brought together Chinese NGOs, including his own Daofeng and Angela Foundation, with the Yale-China Association to protect medical frontline workers in the Northeast with personal protective equipment. To date, the fund has donated nearly one million pieces of PPE, with more than 23,000 N95 masks donated to the Yale School of Medicine alone.

The philosophy behind the Daofeng and Angela Foundation is a simple one: “We should not forget others when we prosper,” says Daofeng He, who created the foundation in 2016 with his wife, Angela. Since then, the foundation has funded projects that promote self-awareness and self-governance, share and preserve the values of people in the developing world, and demonstrate the power of non-violence. Daofeng He’s philosophy is best expressed in his new book, THE HUMAN CALLING , Three Thousand Years of Eastern and Western Political Philosophy (Morgan James Faith; April 26, 2022).

In addition to their work during the pandemic, the Daofeng & Angela Foundation has supported:

The Mercy Corps following the devastating hurricane in Puerto Rico.
The C&O Canal Trust, to provide designated resting places in the C&O Canal National Historical Park, which receives more than 5 million visitors a year.
The International Leadership Foundation, which prepares the next generation of Asian-Pacific American leaders.

The Brighter Future Program, to provide humanitarian aid to refugees from South Sudan.
The Washington Guzheng Society, to provide theater space to promote performances that portray Guzheng culture.
The China Folk House Retreat, which is dedicated to fostering cultural and educational exchanges between the United States and China.

The foundation, which provides grants and assistance to public charities with common goals, was conceived of by Daofeng and Angela He. Long dedicated to charitable works, Angela He opened her home to victims of Hurricane Katrina and is an experienced volunteer. She believes, “Helping and receiving are equally important in our daily lives.” Daofeng He initiated the family charitable foundation when he retired to Maryland, after a long career in rural and resources development, business and entrepreneurship, and micro-finance and poverty alleviation.
